BTC is currently trading around $63,800 and ETH around $3,400. Notable gainers in the last 24 hours are PEPE, WIF, and OM. The global crypto market cap is $2.46T, up 1.4% over the last day. DeFi Total Value Locked is ~$97b and BTC dominance is around 55%.
Crypto is higher over the last day, with three particularly notable items. First, Donald Trump picked Ohio senator JD Vance to be his VP running mate. Vance holds a favorable view of the crypto industry and has criticized the SEC. In addition, the SEC reportedly told issuers to submit their final spot Ethereum ETF registration statements by Wednesday so the products can launch on Tuesday, July 23. However, prices retreated slightly after Kraken, which is one of five crypto exchanges returning Mt Gox Bitcoin to creditors, received funds from Mt Gox and stated it will distribute them in the next 7-14 days.
Notable news includes: South Korean lawmakers moved to delay a tax on crypto profits to 2028; Hong Kong’s SFC identified seven unauthorized crypto exchanges and placed them on its Alert List; Coinbase, Ripple, and a16z are sending representatives to the US Republican and Democratic National Conventions; Coinbase narrowed its request for SEC Chair Gensler’s communications to only when Gensler was SEC Chair; BlackRock CEO Larry Fink called Bitcoin “digital gold” and a “legitimate financial instrument” during a media interview; Stripe expanded its services in the EU to allow users to buy cryptocurrencies using credit and debit cards; Polygon released the latest version of its zero knowledge proving system Plonky3; Telegram game PixelTap announced it will add Pudgy Penguin characters to the game; and, Bonfida rebranded to the Solana Name Service.
