Daily Market Update: February 26, 2025

BTC is currently trading around $83,800 and ETH around $2,300.  Notable gainers in the last 24 hours are IP, BERA, and LTC.  The global crypto market cap is $2.88T, down 3.9% over the last day.  DeFi Total Value Locked is ~$101b and BTC dominance is around 61%.

Equity markets are mixed after Trump threatened tariffs on EU goods and ahead of Nvidia’s earnings report later today. Meanwhile, crypto markets continue to trend lower as recent events continue to weigh on sentiment.

Notable news includes: The SEC ended its investigation into Uniswap and will not pursue an enforcement action against its developer; The US House Ways and Means Committee voted to recommend that the House passes a resolution to overturn the IRS’ DeFi tax rule; Democratic CFTC Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero announced she will step down after the confirmation of Brian Quintenz as agency chair; Bank of America’s CEO said the bank will likely launch its own stablecoin, pending the passage of US stablecoin legislation; crypto-friendly former Congressman Patrick McHenry joined a16z as an advisor; Ondo Finance joined Mastercard’s Multi-Token Network and will make its tokenized US treasuries product OUSG available to users of the platform; former CEO and Co-Founder of BlockFi Zac Prince joined Galaxy Digital as managing director; crypto asset management firm Bitwise raised $70M in new funding round; the cause of Bybit’s $1.5B hack was traced to a compromised Safe Wallet developer machine; onchain sleuth ZachXBT joined Paradigm as an incident response advisor following his investigations into the Bybit hack; Phantom wallet acquired token data platform SimpleHash; Aave governance approved a proposal to halt lending services on Polygon’s PoS chain; the Avalanche Foundation launched its Avalanche Card, a Visa credit card that allows users to purchase items using Avalanche tokens; and, Delta Blockchain Fund’s founder unveiled a new cross-chain interoperability startup called Inclusive Layer.
