Notable news includes: the U.S. stablecoin bill is not expected to limit stablecoin issuance strictly to banks according to Congressman Himes; Dubai revealed plans to create ~40k virtual jobs in the metaverse during the next five years; Crypto.com gained approval to operate in Italy; a 1000-page court document showed that 3AC owed creditors ~$3.5b; a five-member creditor committee was formed for 3AC’s liquidation; Celsius’ lawyers claimed that users gave up the legal rights to their crypto; BlockFi offered employee buyouts to further reduce headcount; Gemini undertook another round of layoffs; Coinbase cited the bear market for removing its affiliate program; Lido revealed plans to offer liquid derivatives of staked tokens on various L2s starting with Arbitrum and Optimism; ConsenSys announced the tokenization of its security auditing services through the launch of NFTs representing 40 hours of auditing time; Circle laid out 18 principles it has established as part of its effort to shape stablecoin policy in the U.S.; Samsung indicated its working on a new 3-nanometer Bitcoin mining chip that will improve energy efficiency by ~45%; Marathon secured a new hosting deal with Applied Blockchain that will provide enough power to fully support its year-end hashrate projections; BitGo revealed it will begin to custody NEAR and it will custody the NEAR Foundation’s treasury; Snapshot revealed plans to let DAOs hide votes via threshold encryption; Aave partnered with Pocket Network to improved dapp development; RUNE rallied as THORChain deactivated non-native tokens; MetaMundo launched a marketplace for interoperable metaverse NFTs; Time Magazine’s President said he hopes to migrate all future subscriptions into NFTs; Multicoin Capital and others backed Modular Capital, a new $20m crypto hedge fund; Christie’s launched a venture fund aimed at web3 and blockchain investments; Anthony Scaramucci’s Skybridge Capital halted investor redemptions in one of its funds with crypto exposure; and, UFC fighter Luana Pinheiro announced a partnership with Bitwage to receive her full salary in bitcoin.
